Explain any two ways in which communalism can take a political form.
Answer: Communalism can take the form of political mobilisation, in which religious symbols, leaders and emotional appeals are used to gather support from one religious community. It can also become the demand for political dominance or the creation of a separate state for one religious community, sometimes leading to riots and violence.
Solution
Communalism enters politics when religion is used to organise voters or make political demands. Its extreme forms may seek dominance for one community or a separate political unit and can produce conflict and violence.
