How many 5-digit even numbers can be formed using each of the digits 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 exactly once?

  1. A.48
  2. B.60Correct answer
  3. C.72
  4. D.96

Solution

If the last digit is 0, the remaining digits can be arranged in 4!=244!=24 ways. If the last digit is 2 or 4, the first digit has 3 choices (it cannot be 0), and the remaining three digits have 3!3! arrangements, giving 2×3×3!=362\times3\times3!=36. Thus, the total is 24+36=6024+36=60.
