Let A = {1, 2, 3}, B = {a, b}, and R = {(1, a), (2, b), (3, a)} be a relation from A to B. Which statement is correct?
- A.R is not a function from A to B.
- B.R is a function, one-one and onto.
- C.R is a function, onto but not one-one.Correct answer
- D.R is a function, one-one but not onto.
Solution
Every element of has exactly one image, so is a function. Both and occur as images, making it onto, but and have the same image, so it is not one-one.
