Differentiate between circuit switching and packet switching. Mention one important advantage of packet switching.
Answer: Circuit switching establishes a dedicated communication path between the sender and receiver for the entire session, whereas packet switching divides data into packets that may travel through different routes and are reassembled at the destination. Packet switching uses network resources more efficiently because the links can be shared by packets from multiple communications.
Solution
Circuit switching reserves a fixed path before communication begins, providing a continuous dedicated connection. Packet switching sends independently routed packets over shared links, making better use of available bandwidth.
