Practice question from Magnetic Effects of Electric Current (Class 10 · CBSE Science), with the correct answer and a step-by-step solution.
hard · MCQ · Q-149D20
An electron enters a uniform magnetic field at right angles to it, as shown in a hypothetical setup. The direction of force acting on the electron will be:
- A.to the right
- B.to the left
- C.into the page / opposite to Fleming's Left-Hand Rule direction for conventional currentCorrect answer
- D.parallel to the magnetic field
Solution
Fleming's Left-Hand Rule gives the direction of force on a positive charge (conventional current). Since an electron is negatively charged, the force it experiences is in the direction exactly opposite to that given by Fleming's Left-Hand Rule.
