Practice question from Magnetic Effects of Electric Current (Class 10 · CBSE Science), with the correct answer and a step-by-step solution.
easy · Subjective · Q-C916F0
State the rule used to determine the direction of the magnetic field produced around a current-carrying straight conductor. Name the rule and state its direction.
Answer: The rule used is the Right-Hand Thumb Rule. According to this rule, if you hold a current-carrying straight conductor in your right hand such that your thumb points in the direction of the current, then your fingers will wrap around the conductor in the direction of the field lines of the magnetic field.
Solution
The Right-Hand Thumb Rule helps visualize concentric circular magnetic field lines around a straight wire carrying electric current.
