Explain two major ways in which the Green Revolution changed Indian agriculture.
Answer: The Green Revolution increased the production of wheat and rice through the use of high-yielding variety seeds, irrigation, chemical fertilisers and pesticides. It helped India achieve greater food-grain self-sufficiency, but its benefits were concentrated mainly in regions with assured irrigation and adequate infrastructure.
Solution
The Green Revolution raised food-grain output by combining high-yielding seeds with irrigation and modern agricultural inputs. However, it also created regional inequalities because only areas with reliable water supply and supporting facilities benefited substantially.
