easy · Subjective · Q-384A65
Why do people sprinkle water on the ground or roof during hot summer days?
Answer: Water has a large latent heat of vaporization. When water sprinkled on hot surfaces evaporates, it absorbs the necessary heat from the surroundings, cooling the surface and the air around it.
Solution
Evaporation causes cooling because the liquid absorbs latent heat from the surroundings to change into vapor.
