Why are political parties necessary for the functioning of modern democracies? Explain any three reasons.
Answer: Political parties contest elections and give voters a choice between different policies and programmes. They form and run governments, make laws, and coordinate the work of different departments. They also act as a link between citizens and the government by raising public issues and shaping public opinion.
Solution
A complete answer should explain that parties provide electoral choices, form governments and legislatures, and connect citizens with government. These functions make collective decision-making possible in large and complex democracies.
