Write a note on: Frankfurt parliament

Answer: In 1848, the middle classes of the German regions decided to unite the different German states into a nation-state governed by an elected parliament. On 18 May 1848, 831 elected representatives marched to take their seats in the Frankfurt Parliament, convened in the Church of St. Paul. It drafted a constitution for a German nation to be headed by a monarch subject to parliament. When the crown was offered to the Prussian king, Friedrich Wilhelm IV, he rejected it and joined other monarchs in opposing the assembly. The Parliament was also weakened by its failure to win the support of workers and artisans and by internal divisions, including over granting voting rights to women. Dominated by the middle classes, it eventually had to disband, and troops were called in to crush it.

Solution

1848, Church of St. Paul, a constitution for Germany, and the crown refused by Friedrich Wilhelm IV.
