easy · Subjective · Q-C2DE6C
Write a note on: Count Camillo de Cavour
Answer: Count Camillo de Cavour was the Chief Minister of Sardinia-Piedmont who led the movement to unify the Italian states. He was neither a revolutionary nor a democrat, but a wealthy aristocrat who, like many other Italian elites, spoke better French than Italian. Through a tactful diplomatic alliance with France engineered by Cavour, Sardinia-Piedmont defeated the Austrian forces in 1859 and freed the northern Italian states from Austrian control. He was instrumental in making Victor Emmanuel II the king of a united Italy in 1861.
Solution
Recall the Sardinia-Piedmont minister and diplomat, not a revolutionary, who allied with France against Austria.
