Chapter 7Structural Organisation in Animals
Four basic tissues: Epithelial, Connective, Muscular, Neural.
1. Animal Tissues
| Tissue | Types | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Epithelial | squamous, cuboidal, columnar, ciliated, compound | covering, secretion |
| Connective | loose, dense, cartilage, bone, blood | support, link, transport |
| Muscular | skeletal (striated), smooth, cardiac | movement |
| Neural | neurons, neuroglia | control, coordination |
2. Cell Junctions
- Tight: stop leakage.
- Adhering: hold cells together.
- Gap: let ions/molecules pass between cells.
3. Frog (Rana tigrina)
- Cold-blooded; aestivation and hibernation.
- Respiration through skin (water), lungs (land), buccal cavity.
- 3-chambered heart; hepatic and renal portal systems.
- Ureotelic; external fertilisation; tadpole metamorphosis.
4. Key Points
- Glands: exocrine (ducts) and endocrine (ductless).
- Cartilage cells: chondrocytes.
- Bone cells: osteocytes in lacunae.
- Mast cells secrete histamine.
